I Know Someone With Asthma

If you know someone with asthma, you're not alone. According to a recent survey, nearly four out of five Americans either have asthma or know someone who does. More than 31 million Americans have been diagnosed with asthma in their lifetime.

Many people with asthma can be free of symptoms all or most of the time—but only if their asthma is properly controlled. Without a proper diagnosis and treatment plan, asthma can have a serious impact on your loved ones, family members, or close friends.

Having asthma does not mean having to live with frequent asthma symptoms or limiting or changing routines. If you suspect that your loved one may have asthma, you can help him or her take control. Read more to learn about the warning signs and symptoms of asthma, tips for talking to your loved one and how to "asthma-proof" your home.
